Course Description
Building on the fundamental skillset from The Figure Block-in, this class is designed to advance the figure drawing skills necessary to craft highly realistic figure drawings using a library of art historical resources. Each student is encouraged to develop and strengthen their own system of creating a drawing from initial gesture and beginning marks to refining volumetric shapes and contours.
The course will replicate the timeline of creating a GCA figure drawing by working in 20 minute increments for four hours at a time, not exceeding 12 hours per block-in, creating three fully detailed block-ins over the course of 8 weeks. Students can expect to solidify their own unique system for blocking-in the figure from life that captures a sense of rhythm, proportion, and structure creating a drawing which is both detailed and naturalistic.
Each week students are expected to work along with the instructor during class and then work another four hours per week outside of class.
Ananda will both demo and provide individual critiques to students. Note: there is an assignment due the first week of class. The Figure Block-in is a pre-requisite for this class.
Note: The class will be conducted on the Zoom platform and is a live online experience. It will be necessary for students to have access to a computer, tablet or smartphone. The recommended device is a laptop or desktop.
