2024 Fellows

I enjoy working outside and feel most inspired when I do this. I enjoy the look of natural light, and the atmospheric effects you get in a landscape, and feel driven to try to understand these effects that can seem so unpredictable and complex. I find it very stimulating as a problem solving exercise to try to cope with a changing landscape, and I enjoy the time pressure that comes with it as it forces me to be more spontaneous and decisive.
I am a classically trained painter from London. I studied Maths at Oxford and left my PhD in 2021 to study at the Barnes Atelier and pursue an art career, working on plein air paintings outside of my studies, both locally and on trips abroad. As of 2023, I have taken part in numerous prestigious exhibitions about the UK and internationally, including with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
I had a wonderful experience painting as part of the Hudson River Fellowship, getting to paint as part of a serious group of artists over an extended period, immersed in the beautiful landscape and exchanging insights and knowledge.
