Course Description

Drawing from the figure has been the essential foundation of the training and process of painters, sculptors, and designers since the Renaissance. Whether apprentices drawing in the studio of Rembrandt, Bouguereau painting one of his magnificent canvases, or architecture students studying at the grand academies of the 19th century, artists have relied on the practice of drawing from the model.

In this course, the instructors will guide students through the process of making a figure drawing in the GCA method. Students will practice the foundational skill of the block in, and then delve into a long pose drawing in which they will learn to model the figure in graphite. Through a mixture of observation, anatomical/structural construction, and three-dimensional form analysis,  students will learn and practice the essential skills necessary to capture a naturalistic figure.

With a mixture of demos and one-on-one instruction, this course will suit anyone from beginners new to the method, to more experienced draftspersons.

Lara and Eli will alternate teaching days.
