Course Description

In this immersive five-day workshop, artists will create a self-portrait from life, using a mirror to capture an accurate likeness in oils. Gregory Mortenson will guide participants through each phase of the process, from initial drawing to final painting, with daily demonstrations and personalized critiques. The workshop emphasizes techniques for accurate drawing, color mixing, modeling form, and adding finishing details. Key topics include cranial anatomy, light physics, and effective use of materials.

Although aimed primarily at painters with previous oil experience, artists interested in finished portrait drawings are also welcome.
