Course Description

In this class taught by Tyler Berry and Kate Kristian, artists will learn the fundamentals of portrait drawing. With an emphasis on structure and anatomy, artists will learn to approach likeness through careful observation of proportion, skeletal landmarks, and abstract shape design. Students will also learn to create a sculptural quality to their portraits through in-depth analysis of the light and form.

This class will include 10 one-day (four hour) poses,  beginning with portrait drawing fundamentals and ultimately culminating into a conversation about what to prioritize to call a short pose drawing ‘finished’. Different materials and drawing methods will be discussed, as well as what all great drawings share in common.

Instructors will alternate teaching days.
