Course Description

Over five days, students will greatly strengthen their drawing and anatomy skills through a thorough investigation of the human figure. The course will begin with a series of short poses leading to one 26-hour pose. During the short poses we will hone in our process for beginning a figure by establishing proportions, gesture, and anatomical landmarks early, building a solid armature on the page that will support a masterful figure. We will then apply what we’ve practiced to a thorough 4-day pose.

The process begins with the block-in stage, which aims to capture the dynamic gesture and weight through an examination of proportion, structure, and simple light and shadow. After the block in, students will begin modeling and articulating the forms through a consideration of volume, light and anatomy. During these five days we will discuss in great depth a conceptual approach to light and form, structure and anatomy with an emphasis on proportion and the skeleton, as well as lessons found in Old Master drawings. Tyler will guide participants through the drawing process with daily individual critiques and demonstrations.

Artists of all skill levels are encouraged to join, though some experience in drawing is encouraged.
