Course Description
Light, volume and color are crucial concepts in painting. In this class, we will investigate these concepts as they relate to portraiture. Participants will have the option to either draw or paint the live model. The class will facilitate the drawing and painting process by breaking it down into digestible steps with a focus throughout on accurate observation. Participants will begin with a linear block-in that will allow for more proficiency in the following rendering stage. The biggest question in the rendering stage is: How does the physics of light on form differ from our perception of value?
Each step of the way, Lucas will give demonstrations and one-on-one critiques. The goal will be to complete a portrait by the end of the 30-hour pose. With permission from the instructor, you may have the opportunity to do more than one portrait and switch spots as long as it follows spacing guidelines. All levels are welcome!
