Course Description

In this five-day workshop, artists will sharpen their abilities through an intuitive approach to figure painting. We will begin with the drawing, either using charcoal or paint to draw directly on the canvas, surveying proportions, shadow shapes, and building a structural armature through anatomical landmarks. On day 2, we will map out the larger light effect with a full-color first pass, thinking about the global light effect and shape design. The remainder of the workshop will be spent working through the figure part by part, solving areas to completion.

By the end of the 5 days, students will have honed their painting skills, figure knowledge, and learn how to think on the canvas through paint. Anatomy, form, color, materials, and process will be discussed. Tyler will demo alongside students, as well as give daily individual feedback.

As we will be jumping right into paint, and wrestling with drawing and color at the same time, some drawing and painting experience is recommended.
