Course Description
In this five day immersive workshop students will build upon their understanding of the human form and the artistic lineage of figure drawing. Working with a figure model from life students will complete a series of studies and one complete figure drawing in their choice of graphite or brown pencil. Dividing time between a linear constructive stage, the “block in”, and a form rendering stage, where the fall of light and three dimensional surface is expressed through informative use of line, shape and gradient. Students will hone their skills of accurate observation and conceptual knowledge to convey both a physical presence and character of the model. The use of a skeleton, ecorche casts and diagrams will be used to bolster the discussion of the architecture of the figure and the fundamentals of representation – character of the model, anatomy & structural conventions, and form rendering.
Chelsea will illustrate each stage of the drawing process with a demonstration. Alongside demos students will receive one on one critiques helping them towards their independent goals.
